Count-down begins to SPE Offshore Europe

Friday, Sep 02, 2011

Thousands of delegates from around the world will flock to the SPE Offshore Europe exhibition and conference next week in Aberdeen, with many of the upstream industry’s leading individuals and operating companies participating in what will be the largest ever event.

The three day event – with an exhibition area larger than ever before, covering more than 25,000 square metres – gets underway on Tuesday, 6th September. And with international delegations visiting from around the world, including Brazil, Nigeria, Kazakhstan and Malaysia, SPE Offshore Europe’s global reach and relevance will be greater than ever, at a time when the industry’s performance has never been under greater scrutiny.

Leading E&P figures will debate and discuss the key issues and topics facing the industry, while millions of pounds worth of business will be done in and around the show, which this year will feature brand new areas including the Deep Water Zone, an entire hall dedicated to the offshore sector’s push to safely and responsibly develop hydrocarbons in some of the world’s most challenging deepwater environments.

The free conference programme, under the overall theme of ‘Securing Safe, Smart, Sustainable Supply’, will kick off with a keynote plenary session entitled ‘Managing Complexity’. It will be led by the Chairman of this year’s event, Samir Brikho, who is also Chief Executive Officer of AMEC plc.

Respected panellists joining him include Charles Hendry, UK Minister of State, Department of Energy and Climate Change; Matthias Bichsel, Projects and Technology Director at Shell; Michele della Vigna, Managing Director, Global Investment Research, Energy at Goldman Sachs; and Chris Finlayson, Executive Vice President and Managing Director, Europe & Central Asia Region, of BG Group. A TV interview with the Chairman previewing the event is available on our website.

There will also be a series of panel sessions and a full technical conference programme throughout the three days of the show, as well as popular ticket-only Breakfast Briefings and Topical Lunches.

Industry Majors attending from around the world This year’s event will feature more oil and gas operating companies than ever before, including Majors such as Shell, BP, Petrobras, ExxonMobil and Chevron. Other international operating companies participating include Statoil, Saudi Aramco, GDF Suez, Centrica, BG Group, DONG, Maersk, Cepsa, ENI, Petronas Carigali, Premier Oil, TAQA, Total, Addax Petroleum and INPEX.

There will also be country pavilions from nations including Brazil, United States, China, Nigeria, Norway, Australia, Canada, the Netherlands, Spain, Italy, Austria, Denmark, the Faroe Islands, Germany, France, Flanders/Belgium, the Northern Territories of Australia, Finland, Greenland and Malaysia.

Exhibition Director Elaine Hulse said: “We are looking forward to a vibrant and busy event at Offshore Europe, which is sold out and nearly 10% larger than in 2009. With so much international interest and participation, in terms of operating companies, government ministries and others, it is very encouraging for both us and the city of Aberdeen.

“We would encourage everyone within the industry and the city and surrounding areas to participate fully, to make sure they benefit as much as possible from such an important gathering of industry experts and major businesses in one place at one time.”

SPE Offshore Europe is held every two years, and organised by The Offshore Europe Partnership – a joint venture between Reed Exhibitions Ltd. and the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE).
